Bound by Luck and Fate is an album of original music by Owen Spence.

The album is titled after the main track of the group, “Bound by Luck and Fate.” This track is split into two, one “ambient” track and one “action” track. The setup is meant to mimic that of a video game where various sections of the piece can be rearranged based on their intensity. This inspiration also serves as the basis for the edited version of the track, which is meant to mimic the way film and game composers will shorten a longer track into a shorter digestible arrangement for an original soundtrack release.

Tracks such as “Illusio Mortis” and “Fati Volumtatem” are an exploration of adapting the chord and modal structure of existing compositions to a choral setting. “Perchance” and “Pavement” are two sketches to explore different moods, using styles seen in the video game Halo as a starting point. ”Perchance” features the “Rythmatic” sample patch that Halo fans will know from tracks such as “Perchance to Dream” and “Dream Again.” “Pavement” takes a familiar drum loop from EastWest’s Storm Drum library to create a sound evocative of Halo 3: ODST’s film noire setting. Keeping with the Halo inspiration, “Perilous Fortune” explores the style established by “Peril” from Halo 2.

“Binding Calm” (and its reprise) are Owen expanding his experience with the Lo-Fi genre. Tracks such as “Brendan’s Song,” “Joe’s DnD Adventure,” and “Rains of September” were composed to celebrate the birthdays of loved ones. “Destined Outcome” is the last major theme to be established before “Scribbled With Endearing” brings the entire album full circle by returning to most of the pre-established themes set forth in the album.

The collection was created track-by-track from 2022 to 2024.
